JOHANNES WOHNSEIFER

Johannes Wohnseifer’s multi-referential works reflect the history of art and design, the legacy of Pop and Minimalism, corporate branding and the fetishization of desire, politics and history. Working across a wide variety of media including painting, sculpture, video, photography, and installation, as well as the medium of the artist's book, Wohnseifer mines contemporary visual culture, appropriating, deciphering and reinterpreting a variety of visual languages, recreating, transforming and subverting their orginal meanings through his use of innovative analog and digital technical processes.

Wohnseifer’s works simultaneously reflect a system of aesthetic appropriation of historical as well as social structures, while highlighting the nearly unperceived nature of this annexation of motifs, forms, and themes in the history of culture.
